The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association is widely considered one of the most exciting high school lacrosse leagues in the country.  Two teams from the league, McDonogh and Loyola-Blakefield, faced off on April 8 in a thrilling matchup.

McDonogh, ranked 4th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, wanted revenge against Loyola who knocked the Eagles out in the semifinals of last years’ MIAA playoffs.  The Dons, ranked 32nd, went on to win last years’ championship.

Trailing for most of the first half, McDonogh netted three late goals to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.  Trey McGee had the first of the three goals and Connor Young followed up with the remaining two.

In the third, Loyola tied the game at six, but the Eagles quickly responded with another set of three consecutive goals.  This time, McGee capped off the trio, following goals from Robby Black and Bobby Austin.

The fourth quarter saw goalie Jacob Stover make some of his best saves of the game.  Finishing the game with nine saves, Stover came up clutch in the final stanza, only allowing two goals despite a heavy Loyola attack.  At the final whistle, McDonogh was able to hang on to a 9-8 victory.

Advancing to 9-1 on the season, the Eagles still have many challenges to face.  McDonogh faces 20th ranked St. Paul’s, another MIAA rival, on April 11.

Key Players:

Trey McGee- 2 goals

Bobby Austin- 1 goal, 1 assist
